Mark Tointon

I moved to Broadstone from Edinburgh in 1998, when my wife and I married. We live in Broadstone and have two young children who attend local schools.

Having spent ten years teaching Physics in the secondary sector, the move from Scotland prompted me to satisfy an entrepreneurial itch by setting up my own business. This evolved from just me doing a variety of work in the early stages (anything to earn some cash!) into what is now a well-established digital publishing business, which provides e-learning services to over 25,000 people and web design and software development services to local, national and international clients.

Business can become all-absorbing but during 2005-2007 I found the time and energy to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents plus another at the North Pole. In fact I ended up running seven marathons and five ultra-marathons during that period and clocked up over 4,000 miles. To choose highlights is almost impossible, but must include flying into the middle of Antarctica, completing the 100 mile Sahara Ultra-marathon and fulfilling a life-long ambition to view Mount Everest from the tranquil peak of Kala Pattar.

Having explored many remote places I now prefer being closer to home - exercising and training my dog, sailing in Poole harbour and taking advantage of shooting and fishing opportunities in the area. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

We are also lucky to have such a thriving business centre in Broadstone - both retail and commercial. I am delighted to be involved with BCTC, helping to build on the valuable work done by so many members to date. My particular interests are (1) making the most of technology to help us get our message across, (2) strengthening links between businesses and local schools and (3) promoting environmentally sustainable business practices.

This is the website of Broadstone Chamber of Trade and Commerce (BCTC). We are a thriving and expanding organisation, representing the interests of more than 50 businesses in the Broadstone area. Some sections of the website are open to the public, whereas others are for Members only. That means that Members will need to log in with their user name and password to access those sections. You can log in via the Login Form on the home page of the website. We welcome contributions from all Members of the Chamber, so if you have any feedback, comments, news or other input you would like to share with us, please email us in the first instance at info@broadstone.biz.
